The first healthy week of this year has come to an end. Here is the first weekly report of my progress.

I have exercised for 6 hours and 40 minutes during this week and lost 3.3 kg. What a start!

Cheating the scales

There is no possibility for med to continue loosing 3.3 kg every week. What has happened is the same shocking thing that always happens in the first week of Biggest Looser. Your body is accustomed to a certain amount of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates binds to water.

When you stop eating carbohydrates, the level of water tied in your body will decrease. This will result in that:

  • you have to pee a lot more
  • therefore you will be thirsty
  • and also you will loose a lot of weight

1 liter of water weighs 1 kg. My guess is that I have lost around 1.5 – 2 kg of water.

This is something that you have to keep in mind when you end the diet. When you start to eat regular food again with more carbohydrates, the body will start stacking water. This will mean that you will immediately increase 1-2 kg again. For this reason, you have to set your target a bit below your actual target.

I think that 1-2 kg per week is a realistic goal with my diet. During next week I will loose far less than last week. This is what usually shocks the contestants in Biggest Looser. After loosing 10 kg of water the first week, some of them will actually gain some weight the second week. This is because the body is getting used to the treatment.
Biathlon

Activities

Monday – Weight in at 98.6 kg. This is my start weight, just below the deciton. My goal will be 88.6. Took a long walk during lunch. Had cravings for chocolate during the afternoon. Monday fast.

Tuesday – 98.4 kg. 45 minute walk during lunch. My body fluttered between too warm and too cold. Cravings for a beer at dinner time.
Wednesday – 97.6 kg. Pilates 60 minutes, running 40 minutes. Dry skin, probably due to excessive showering. Had to pee a lot, and was thirsty.
Thursday – 96.4 kg. 45 minute walk during lunch. I was really hungry all day.
Friday – 96.9 kg. Took a 50 minute walk with my eldest son, but he ran the bike. Finished the working with with a poor mans Gin Tonic (a cup of tea) in front of the TV.
Saturday – 95.0(!) kg. Tried out Biathlon for the first time – skiing and shooting – during 1 hour. That was great fun.
Sunday – 96.0 kg. Running with Mrs Heed, 45 minutes
Monday – 95.3 kg. Monday fast, again. 60 minutes running during lunch.
